My kitchen had an outlet flush with the sheet rock, but we added tile to the back splash. Well this left the outlet recessed. Here is a quick fix.
This outlet was for looks only. Nothing like plugging in something and the whole outlet moves and you feel like the face plate is going to break. Or worse… it already broke… Here is the less than $5 fix. Took me under 5 min but for a novice make it around 10 min.
Step One: Unscrew face plate
see how the outlet was recessed and not fully against the tile
Step Two: unscrew the outlet.
Yes i maybe should have turned the breaker off. But i knew i could accomplish this project without shocking myself.
Step Three: slip the box around the outlet.
i bought this from… (insert name of your favorite big box hardware store)…
see the new longer screws to accommodate the extended box
see how the outlet now sits flush on top of the box
Step Four: screw the outlet in and the blue tabs should catch the material around the recessed box
Step Five:screw on the face plate
Test out your work. Now my whole outlet does not wiggle. Huzzah!
